PRIZES

The underground won the Grand Prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition. Parts of this great achievement were obviously attributed to chief designers Mór Balázs and Henrik Jellinek. In June 1896, Mór Balázs, creator of the idea for an underground, received the noble title with the title name “Verőczei”. On his coat of arms, we can find a tunnel, some rails, and lightning too.

Because of the underground, several foreign politicians, engineers, and professionals visited Budapest to study the transportation system.
